Reliable Battery Backup
UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The SMART1500LCD features a large internal battery that provides 3.5 min. of battery support for a full load (900 watts), 13 min. for a half-load (450 watts) or 75 min. for a single PC. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available if needed.
Advanced Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)
Advanced AVR protects your equipment from incremental hardware damage, data loss and performance problems that can be caused by low-voltage conditions (brownouts) and overvoltages. The SMART1500LCD automatically corrects brownouts as low as 75V and overvoltages as high as 147V back to 120V without drawing on battery backup power that may be needed to support your equipment during a blackout.
Rotatable LCD Status Screen
The SMART1500LCD features a large illuminated LCD screen with dimmer switch that alerts you to potential power problems. This screen shows input voltage, 5-bar battery charge level, overload, AVR, on battery and replace battery status at a glance. It can be rotated for easy viewing in both horizontal and vertical UPS installations.
AC Line and Tel/Ethernet Surge Suppression
A sudden power surge or spike on an AC, phone or network line can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The SMART1500LCD features a 480-joule surge suppression rating to protect connected components and data from the harmful effects of power surges. One set of tel/Ethernet (RJ45) jacks provides surge protection for a standard phone, DSL or network connection.
EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering
Various electrical and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. Used with Tripp Lite's free PowerAlert software (available from Tripp Lite as a Web download), these ports enable safe unattended system shutdown and file saves in the event of a prolonged power failure. The USB port also enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows® and Mac OS® X.
Versatile Installation Options
The SMART1500LCD is easily adaptable to vertical (tower) or horizontal installations. Its 6-ft. power cord features a space-saving right-angle plug that allows furniture to be placed flush against the wall. We bought 3 of these for two different locations. 100% of them have failed with the same problem. If the power goes out even for a few seconds the unit shuts down completely taking the servers along with it. The problem is that it appears to be doing it's job but when it really matters you find out otherwise. Tripp Lite has been good to replace them but it can't restore my faith in their power protection products. Also of note the batteries in the Tripp Lite units are half the size of those in APC products with the same rating.

I have been a long-time (15+ years) APC fan and had never tried anything other than APC (and never had problems with any APC product). How hard could it be, APC had it down! Well this Tripp-lite product sucked. From the day I bought it the display would never show a full charge. I called the "technical support" about the erroneous reading and they advised that it is "normal" and that the battery is actually fully charged. Then the first time I had a power outage the unit only lasted about half as long as it should have given the 1500VA capasity and a load of about 400 watts. I phoned them again and they give me some crap about how the know the wattage and how it is difficult to estimate run time. I told them I had a lemon and I wanted another, they declined. Fast forward a few months the unit starts to power off in the middle of the day (line voltage was fine). That is going to start costing me more money in damaging OS files. For the same money you can get the BR1500 from APC which is expandable using the BR24BP to quadrupal the runtime for another $150 or less. I will never stray from APC again.
